I joined my first Networking Marketing opportunity at the ripe ole age of 20. They gave me a kit and turned me loose on all my unsuspecting friends and family. That slogan painted on the side of a van owned by our companyInc., the
maker of our triple scented gourmet candles, sums up an important aspect of the company’s
success.
Two of three partners in the venture, Bob Scocozzo and Charles Umphred, were
successful direct marketers for several years before they joined with Carmen
Milazzo to form Sour company. Also known as multi-level marketing, or MLM,
direct selling uses a large network of mostly part-time distributors to
promote and sell products person-to-person rather than in stores.
“When a direct selling business works it is far superior to a ‘shelf’
industry,” Umphred said. “To me it is a superior model.”
Our company makes it much easier for the distributor to make money. The
minimum purchase is only six candles, bought at half the average $18.95 each
retail price. If sales exceed $45 per month, which represents just a handful
of candles, our company sets up and maintains a Web site for the
distributor and handles all the order processing of Internet sales. There is
no upfront payment and no contract.
Distributors are free to sell products any way they wish – at parties and
craft shows, for fundraising or by “walking and talking” as they go through
the day.

Comparing Prices
Guess what the results were?
At this show we sales were NO DIFFERENT than the average number of 16-oz jars sold in the previous 5 years!!! That’s right, there was NO difference and NO increase in sales.
I did this same pricing test in my regular retail sales marketing, then compared sales at $11.95 to sales at $18.95. Again, the number of jars sold was insignificant.
However, there was one HUGE difference I experienced: my revenue took a huge nosedive! That was the ONLY difference I experienced.
Putting your products on sale at a significant reduction cheapens the value, it doesn’t increase your sales.

That is a sampling; I found over 30 very successful candle companies online that are doing just fine in the current economy. Most of them were anywhere from 20% to 300% more expensive than a Mia Bella candle.
Will you find candles that cost less than a Mia Bella? Yes, you will! BUT, will that candle perform as well, smell as real, burn as clean, last as long, as a Mia Bella? My customers emphatically say “NO!!!” they don’t. I believe them because they back up that vote with more purchases.
If you have people tell you that a Mia Bella product is “too expensive”, thank them for their opinion, and move on. Trust me, there are tens of thousands of people out there who not only appreciate a top quality gourmet candle, once they find it they will stay loyal for YEARS! I know that’s true because we have met them. Some are loyal customers; some are loyal Associates; and some are now loyal distributors.
